I recollect this evening with a lot of fondness. The Monsoon season has kicked in , and the showers are typically incessant in Mumbai. On this particular day however the rains were intermittent. We had driven down to South Mumbai to the one end of the city at the NCPA for an evening performance. The show got over at 9:15 pm and left us with a myriad choices to catch a grub from. After debating for a while, we drove to one of the closest eat-outs The Tea Centre. I had heard of this place a lot, so was happy to pay a visit.
The place has an old world charm, and has the look and feel of an era gone by. The name of the place reciprocates in their menu, where the first few pages are dedicated to various kinds of flavors and blends available. It was late and the diners were all having their dinner. So we thought of trying our 'chai' at the end of the meal. We ordered for our starters, Chicken with sauteed mushroom and onion , and Chicken Catchatori.

The starters were good, I personally liked the Chicken with sauteed mushrooms and onion better. The waiter came around to tell us that they close at 11 pm, so need to place the order for our mains. The staff were a little too eager to rush the diners, by the look of it.
The mains order included a Chicken steak , a Roast chicken in Red wine sauce, a Poached fish in Lemon sauce and a Chicken Roulade. The food arrived, which frankly was an average affair. The sauce were too much, the quantity of the protein was too little. The stir fried veggies were overdone. I would say that the only reason we all ate our meal was because we were quite hungry by then and it was already late to venture to another place. The Chicken Roulade, which I had ordered was probably the only dish which was palatable on that table.

However, we moved on to our hot beverage. We ordered a pot of Rose tea, and Masala Chai in Kullad. Also I had ordered a Blackcurrant Iced tea to go with my starters in the beginning, and it was quite remarkable. The tea arrived, and it completed blew my mind! Needless to say, this place derives it's name for a reason. My cup of Rose tea was rejuvenating , and felt like a real culmination to the meal.

Of course, the next time around I will skip the food and come here to try few other blends in Tea. And head back home happily.
