Cafe Boda for our Bengali fix!

Our visit to this place was as impromptu as it could get. The Bengali New year has just gone by, and the weekend was around the corner. So last week, we clubbed it all as a reason to try out the Bong food in this new eatery.
Located in Hiranandani Gardens, this outlet is tucked inside a shopping arcade, so can be easily missed unless you are a regular in Powai. For us, it was an easy task. The menu had familiar items which brought back our hunger and fervor to eat a bit more :) We ordered the Bhetki Rongpuri (Barramundi Fish cutlets)  to begin with. We had asked for their Aam Panna , but they did not seem to have that or  any of their featured special drinks, apart from the regular soda drinks. So I ordered for a Sweet lime.

Next we ordered the Chicken Kobiraji Cutlet. This is a delectable and sinful dish. A delicious filling of chicken mixed with spices, covered with a layer of egg whites which is fried to a gorgeous golden brown, and achieves its fluffy exterior. I took a snapshot of the cross-section to share a better view. Skip it if you are counting your calories, but it is as delicious and Bengali as it gets. Both the Fish cutlet and the Chicken Kobiraji were good.

This was quite filling by itself, but we could not sign out of a Bong place without trying their Biryani. So we ordered for a pot of their Nawabi Mutton Biryani Special. Now, this was very good, in fact better than the starter dishes.

To bring the whole meal to a completion, we ordered for their Nalengurer Ice cream, which happens to be a specialty in Kolkata. I loved the ice cream , it tasted like a frozen sondesh with molten gur (jaggery). The flavor was well balanced and the sweetness was not over the top. So I really enjoyed my dessert.

When it came to the service, I must say that we weren't pleased. We had to wait for over 40 minutes after placing our orders. And a lot of patrons seemed to be complaining about the same thing. The staff were polite, but the delays were very conspicuous. Also they did not have their special drinks available due to some reason. These specialty restaurants are always a wholesome experience, and a few glitches here and there can stand to mar the overall feel and experience of the place.

At Jamjar Diner's on Friendship's Day

We visited Jamjar Diner's on the first Sunday of August, also known as the Friendships day, well whatever it is called we just need a reason to meet our friends. Due to it's increasing popularity the place was packed with guests that day. But we didnt budge either, since we had zeroed in on the location beforehand. We chose to wait our turn for about 20 minutes.  There happened to be about a small area in the bar section next to the big black telephone.  We ordered our craft beer of Gateway Brewery whilst we waited. I ordered for a White Zen while my partner went with a Doppelganger . He is already a huge fan of their beer. The drink was very refreshing, and I absolutely adored mine.  White Zen of Gateway Brewery at Jamjar Doppelganger of Gateway Brewery at Jamjar There was a huge turn up on that day,as it was a weekend. The bad ass buffet at Global Fusion!

I have been to Global Fusion over eight times and I confess that till date I have never been able to taste all the dish on their menu. Such is the 'vastness' of their buffet! The very first time that we had been to this place, we were in for a surprise with this vast spread, but we learnt this soon enough and for our forthcoming trips we have been relatively prepared, because one cannot be fully prepared for this vast array of Asian food choices. Everything on their menu card happens to be on display, and one can order this together or in portions, for a fixed per head cost. Most of everything that they have on display are interesting options and good and the place is good value for money!  View from our Table 29 at Global Fusion Their display includes a Sushi counter. But my favorite is the Baked Prawn with Cheese and the Prawn Tempura. My husband is very fond of their Prawn Tempura and the Iceberg chicken. Their Tempura’s are perfectly crispy on the outside and m...

At 55 East, Grand Hyatt

We had the perfect Sunday lunch here. As soon as we entered, we were greeted with smiling faces, and ushered to a table. We went around to check the buffet spread and were convinced about trying it out.  To begin with we went to the Sushi counter. The sushis on display looked very interesting and we tried all of them. Perfectly balanced flavors and the quality was superlative. I believe we must have tried at least a couple of rounds of Sushi of all kinds, to our hearts content.  Next we tried the South Asian counters, which had the Indonesian, Singaporean flavors. There was a lot of prawns and fresh ingredients in these counters. Also there was the live counter, from which we hardly opted for anything. We next walked to the Indian counter to find chaats, knick knacks, and some tandoor starters, fish cutlets. Main course had a mix of North and South Indian options. The  Indian food was the right amount of spicy. We enjoyed ...
